This was a good news\/bad news kind of week in Canadian sports.<\/p>\n

Canada went without a medal at the men\u2019s hockey world championship, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fell short in his bid for back-to-back NBA titles, and the Montreal Canadiens crashed out of the playoffs.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s hoping you preferred to hear the bad news first.<\/p>\n

The good news is that Jesse Marsch announced the 26-man FIFA World Cup squad, Mitch Marner led the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Final, the Toronto Tempo continue to impress in their debut season, and Felix Auger-Aliassime may have the clearest path he could ever hope to have in a bid to win his maiden Grand Slam title.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s everything you need to know about the week that was among Canadian sports teams and athletes.<\/p>\n

Canada finishes men\u2019s hockey world championship without a medal<\/h2>\n

The nation\u2019s run at the men\u2019s hockey world championship came to a disappointing end with consecutive defeats in the semifinal and bronze medal game.<\/p>\n

Canada looked in terrific form heading in, going undefeated in the group stage and then dispatching the U.S. in the quarterfinals. Led by superstars in Sidney Crosby and Macklin Celebrini, they seemed on course once again when they took a 2-1 lead against Finland after the first period.<\/p>\n

It all fell apart in the second period, though, as the Finns outshot Canada 10-3 in the period and converted on three of those opportunities to take a 4-2 lead. There was no response from the red and white thereafter.<\/p>\n

“There were a couple of mental absences and mistakes in the second that cost us,” captain Celebrini said after the game. “They…<\/p>\n
